This writing course I'm taking is complete fucking arse.

It's AWFUL.
For a start, most of the class thought it would focus primarily on short fiction, but it seems to mainly be poetry - we have 12 lectures on poetry, 3 on song lyrics and 4 on monologues.

It's meant to be a first-year summer paper - so, usually fairly easy with a light workload. For this, not counting our actual assessments, we have over 1000 words of homework each week. And it's all CRAP.
For example, our first week of homework consisted of:
Excercise 1:
Going to a physical site (like a museum, shop, supermarket, Church, whatever) and writing at least 250 different words from the location (and I'm assuming about the location.) The we have to arrange 100 of the words so they're linked by alliteration, assonance, consonance, rhyme, imperfect rhyme.

Excercise 2: Find a total of five inspirations for poems, one from each of
an intruiging newspaper or magazine article
a greeting card
a photograph of a person
an attention getting advertisment
a two-dimensional artwork.
Write at least a hundred words about each, using the 'brainstorming method'.
(WTF? I haven't had to do that since primary school.)

Excercise three:
Imagine your house is burning down and you only have time to save three possessions (not including people or animals).
What would the three possesions be?
Descride the three possessions precisely in at least fifty words each.

Excercise four:
What was the best present you recieved as a child? Explain what it mean to you in approx. fifty words.
What was the most disappointing present you ever recieved? Explain why in approx. fifty words.
Identify something significant you bought yourself. In approx. fifty words explain why it was signficant.

Excercise five:
Identify a place that means a lot to you and has strong memories or associations. Brainstorm at least one hundred words to do with this place.

I mean...what the fuck? We actually have to brainstorm or mindmap or whatever you call it and stick it in our 'workbooks'. Seriously, this is just like being at primary school again.
