I have a new job! I accepted an offer from a wee cafe/bakery, Hillyers of Lincoln (in, funnily enough, Lincoln) this morning. I'm nervous as balls, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think I'll have fun there. (The other staff are also dirty minded potty mouths. I fit in wonderfully.)

This does of course mean that I've resigned at my old job, where I've been for 6 years. I don't WANT to leave, but I feel I haven't really been given a choice. A combination of bad ownership and lazy, inexperienced management has just been the death of the place, and it's a shame.

New job means a pay rise, not having to work nights(!) and getting Friday and Saturday off(!!). It's like the Hospo dream, yo.

Going to try and post more. I'm bringin' it BACK, ooooh yeah!

Missing a lot of people right now.

Seed List

So we have an awful lot of seeds that we're never going to use all of. If anyone (in NZ) would like to have some or swap some, lemme know. Most are from either Egmonts or Kings, and the majority are good for the season of 2014-2016, depending on when we bought them.

I have changed the name of my LJ from brokenphoenix to pythia. As you can probably see.

That will be all.

The cat is at the vet's after straining to go to the toilet this morning. I'm HOPINGHOPINGHOPING that it's constipation, not a urinary blockage (he has a history of both).
Please be ok, little man... :(

More of 'em. Today we've had a 5.3, a 5.8 and a 6.0, along with manymanylots underneath that.
Kitty is scared. Lee was a little excited, then nervous, now bored and annoyed. Hah. I told him to imagine living with it for a year and a half, like some people have been. He didn't like that idea much.

ANYway, if my prescence is sparse, that's probably why - although we haven't lost power yet.

Stay safe, everyone.

Merry christmas, yeah? =/

Please please please spread the word on this, guys. It's disgusting and atrocious and is a blatant attack on women's rights and bodily integrity.

Okay, so I don't usually do this, but this is an issue near and dear to me and this is getting very little no attention in the mainstream media.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.

Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.

Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.

What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.

If you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. There is pretty much no media coverage of this. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.

If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.

What to do?

- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.

- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.

- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.

- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

Looks like the riots in England are still going strong, and are expected to head Lee's way tomorrow.
Might have to stage a rescue operation.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Okay, so I've seen some pretty horrendous Facebook likes/pages lately. Some of them are minorly annoying, eye rolling stuff, but some are seriously rage-inducing, I'm-deleting-you-off-my-friends-list stuff.

This was today's one.

Charming. The grammar, or lack thereof, is just a bonus.

Other recent gems under here. Warning for some pretty upsetting and really gross rape 'jokes' )

So in light of the earthquake, we've moved Lee's flight back a week. Ideally it would have been more like back 3 weeks, but anything later was going to cost an extra $500.
Hopefully that'll be enough time for things to settle down somewhat before he arrives.

So back to waiting.

Sounds like they're saying they think the CTV site is unsurvivable for anyone left now.
Urgh.

So Christchurch got hit by another quake - 6.3
There are reports of serious injuries and multiple fatalities.
We're all ok, and if you know of anyone who needs anything, let me know. I have transport and water and, you know, a whole house.

Stay safe, everyone.

Does anyone else watch MIsfits?
I just watched the latest episode and...oh, my. New crush. I always knew there was potential there...

So I've sent a few emails off regarding this: http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_feminism/450935.html?view=32786551#t32786551

If any of you think it's a worthwihle cause and would like to do something, please write a letter or an email to the Japanese Government or the Japanese Embassy in your country. I think these women deserve recognition and justice, and it'd be great if people could help. It took me all of  a minute or two to send a few emails, and every voice makes a difference.

Thanks guys.

Went for a bareback plod on Flynn today when I was out at mum's. MAN he was a SLUG! Haaha. I ended up doing a full on Thelwell kick with both legs out to get him to leave Meg. Silly boy.
Anyway, only walked and trotted around for 15 minutes or so, since it's hot as shit and we're both out of work. As usual, he was a prince. Such a sweetie.

Hopefully I'll get back into riding properlike this summer. I miss it.
